Your spouse is part of “all things.”

How is your marriage going? Is it easy? Is your relationship with your spouse working the way you want it, or are there a few things you want them to change to make the relationship better?
Anyone who has been married for any time will recognize that marriages are not easy. Although the positives are great, it always seems like there are a few areas where your spouse will just drive you nuts or just make you plain mad at times. It is easy to recognize that we are all in a process here, and there is no perfect relationship, but have you ever considered what God might be doing through these aggravations?
To think about this, let us first go to Scriptures and look at the following passage:
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” (Romans 8:28-29, ESV)
In this passage we have a promise and a purpose. The promise is that all things work together for good and the purpose of all these things is to conform us into the image of his Son. So when we encounter difficulties, we can rest assured that God has promised to work it for good, and that these things will work towards molding us into the image of Christ. I am sure you can see that this is a really cool thing to remember, but you may be wondering how this applies to your spouse.
The application for marriage is that we have to own the fact that all things means all things, which means those difficult moments in your relationship with your spouse. In this, we may need to look at those aggravations and see how God might be trying to transform you through them. Actually, there is no “might be” to it: God is transforming you through them because he has promised it.
So the next time you are aggravated with your spouse, you will do well to pray and thank God for loving you enough to transform you into likeness of Christ through your marriage. Pray and thank God for your spouse, and ask him to open your eyes to see what he is doing in your life then move on to making your relationship better. When you do this, you might fight out the problem is you and not them. I know I have learned this before.
I shared this concept with some friends last week and one guy said, “I see what you are saying, but what if your wife is ALL of the things?” Same rules apply! 
The key thing to remember is that God is always at work in our lives, and it just might be those difficult situations in your marriage where God is really working to transform you.
