God’s Design for Sexual Fulfillment: Summary

In this series, my intent was to move beyond a “Don’t do it” mentality and try to show the real life implications of keeping sex within the confines of marriage as God intended. I believe that far too many people see the Christian position as one that robs people of their fun. The reality is, however, because sex is much more than just a physical act, it is only within the confines of marriage that people can truly enjoy it as God intended. The world has taken what God created as a gift for us and turned it into something unclean and impure in attempt to enjoy it on our terms rather than God’s. The world has tried to reduce sex to a mere physical act without any emotional and spiritual ramifications, but such things cannot be removed which is the reason why it cannot be truly enjoyed outside of God’s design to keep it in marriage.
When I first wrote this, I left out one extremely important prerequisite for sexual fulfillment. This important aspect is the need for Christ to break the bond of sin in our lives, our relationships, and our sexuality.
If you are reading this and are enslaved to the world’s design for sex whether it is in reality or with pornography, I can tell you that there is hope. You can change. You see, anytime any of us take what God created for us and twist into something sick and distorted we are sinning against God. But I have good news… You see God provided a solution for such sin when His son, Jesus became a man, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross paying the penalty for our sins. The solution is to turn from your sin and trust that His sacrifice paid the penalty for your sin. Then you will be able to turn from your sinful ways because Christ has broken its power in your life.
The key prerequisite to truly enjoying sex as God intended it is to get into a right relationship with Him. Only then will you be able to grow into the likeness of Christ and begin to learn to be “naked and unashamed” in all aspects of your relationship with your spouse. The Cross has given us the ability to move toward pure relationships with our spouses which lays the foundation for people to be able to enjoy sex as God intended. Keeping sex within marriage will help everyone, but it is only through Christ that a couple can truly put off sinfulness in their relationship and move towards a point where they can become naked and unashamed as it was in the beginning.
