Wherever you are is where you will be.

What are you doing while you are there?
Do you have a great goal for your life that you are trying to attain? Goals are great, but sometimes we get caught up in the achieving of such goals that we forget to appreciate what is happening in our life along the way. Our lives are not about reaching benchmarks, but about how we get there.
What is really important? The important is the here and now. I am not saying not to plan for the future, but to look for what God wants you to do right now. Life is journey of ups and downs, but there are always opportunities to touch people’s lives in a meaningful way wherever you might be.
For me, as a student in seminary studying to one day enter into a different line of work, I have had to wrestle with this. I have thought, “one day I will enter into some type of ministry that will allow me to really touch people’s lives.” As I wrestled with this it has become clear to me that there is plenty of work that I can do while I am on this journey of changing my career. I look around and I see all kinds of lost and hurting people that I might be able to help in some way.
If you are not where you want to be right now, plan for the future, set some goals, and work to achieve those goals, but don’t forget to see what you can do right now. You might be in a lousy job that just takes the life out of you and think you must get out to function. Plan to change jobs, but don’t forget to look at what impact you can have while you are still there. God may have you in a particular place and in a particular situation to affect someone’s life in His name.
As Christians, this gets back to looking to “be the fruit,” or be the church wherever you are. God has you where you are right now for some reason so open your eyes to see how you can share the love of God with people around you. The person you were just talking to might be lost, and God might want you share the gospel with them, lead them to Christ, and change their life for all eternity.
Think of it like this:
Wherever you are is where you will be. As you continue to be, always look for ways you can be the church and change people’s lives in the name of and for the glory of God.
